What's a floating box frame?

Floating box frames are a stylish take on the box frame, with your print mounted inside the box, rather than fitted edge to edge. A floating box frame, also called floater frame and tray frame, is designed in such a way that the canvas appears to float within the frame; it is not pressed behind a piece of glass. Because of this illusion, viewers gain a sense of three-dimensional depth when viewing the canvas. When placed inside a box frame the canvas is presented to its very best advantage.

Canvas prints are ready to hang on your wall and do not require a frame; a frame, however, especially a box frame made of rough, unfinished pine wood providing a nice contrast with the canvas texture, can be a beautiful addition. Floating box frames are ideal for framing thick gallery wrapped canvas art, because none of the art is obscured by the lip of a traditional picture frame. Another advantage is that in the end, the canvas appears to float inside the frame, giving it a unique, artful look once it's up on your wall.
